India Trip from Israel: Kasol, Manali, Dharamshala and Rishikesh

For decades Israeli travellers have made the hills of Himachal Pradesh their India. Kasol, in the Parvati Valley, is so popular that it is often called "Mini Israel", with Hebrew signs and menus in its cafés, and McLeod Ganj and Dharamkot above Dharamshala have a long Israeli following too. Getting here

Most travellers fly into Delhi (DEL); flight options from Tel Aviv change often, so compare current direct and one-stop routes. From Delhi, the hills are an overnight Volvo bus or a long day in a car: about 12 hours to Manali and 10 to 12 to Kasol. India is 2 hours 30 minutes ahead of Israel in summer and 3 hours 30 minutes ahead in winter.

Visa

Almost every visitor from abroad needs an Indian visa before flying, and many passports can apply for an e-Visa online. Rules and eligibility change, so check your own passport on the official Government of India site, indianvisaonline.gov.in, before you book flights. Use only that site: look-alike agency sites charge extra for the same form.

The Himachal route

When to come

March to June and September to November are the best months for Himachal. July and August are monsoon months: landslides close roads, so leave spare days. From December to February the high places are snowy and cold, and some guesthouses close, while Rishikesh and Goa are pleasant.

Moving around

Overnight Volvo buses link Delhi with Manali and Bhuntar (for Kasol). A private cab costs more but saves time and stops where you want. We can arrange either, plus a car for the Manali – Kasol – Dharamshala legs.
